Biography

Nico obtained his Bachelor’s degree (Hons) in Biotechnology from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil (2010–2014), followed by a Master’s degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the same university (2015–2016), and then a PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology (2016–2020). After completing his PhD, he worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (2020–2022). In 2022, Nico joined the Chooi Lab as a Research Associate. His research focuses on the molecular, genetic, and biochemical basis of secondary metabolite biosynthesis in fungi, as well as developing methods to improve secondary metabolite yields in heterologous hosts. Prior to joining the Chooi Lab, his research focused on the cellular and molecular biology of entomopathogenic fungi, with particular emphasis on the secondary metabolite biosynthetic pathways in these species.
