Nick Kostylev

Dr. Nikita (Nick) Kostylev is a physicist and IT specialist with extensive expertise in data management, analysis, and technical development. He is currently working with Microscopy Australia at UWA's Centre for Microscopy, Characterisation and Analysis (CMCA) to support the facility’s data management, processing, and analysis needs. Collaborating with researchers, facility staff, and university IT services, he ensures best practices for data handling, storage, and transfer while maintaining compliance with institutional and national policies.

In a prior engagement, Nick worked in the online journal publishing industry. As a Senior Full Stack developer at Impact Journals LLC (USA), he managed cloud infrastructure and led initiatives to modernize data archives, streamline workflows, and implement innovative solutions for data accessibility and compliance. His career spans advancements in cloud storage optimization, FAIR-compliant metadata implementation, and AI-driven data processing. Nick is proficient in programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, and C++, as well as cloud platforms including Amazon AWS and Microsoft Azure.

Nick earned his PhD in Physics from UWA, where he conducted research on quantum systems and ultra-high precision metrology at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Engineered Quantum Systems (EQuS). His doctoral work included the study of microwave high-Q resonators for hybrid quantum systems and the development of laser cooling and trapping techniques for ytterbium atoms, contributing to the creation of Australia's first cold atom optical lattice clock.
