Murugasu Segasothy

Professor Murugasu Segasothy trained as a physician in UK and as a nephrologist in Australia (Sydney and Newcastle). I returned to Malaysia and held an academic appointment with University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM, National University of Malaysia) as a lecturer and subsequently as an Associate Professor and Professor in General Medicine and Nephrology. During this tenor I got a scholarship from UKM to do MD thesis (immunocytologic dissection of the urine sediment using monoclonal antibodies) at the University of Melbourne. Most of my research was in Nephrology and my major interest was in analgesic nephropathy, nephrotoxicity of NSAIDs, urinalysis, SLE, renal involvement in tropical diseases.

Subsequently I got an academic appointment as Associate Professor with the Northern Territory Clinical School of the Flinders University of South Australia based at Alice Springs Hospital. I then moved to Royal Perth Hospital and finally to Fiona Stanley Hospital with adjunct status as Clinical Professor with UWA. In these positons as I am working as a General Physician, I am no longer active in research but focussing in undergraduate (recipient of 8 Excellence in Teaching Awards, four from Flinders University and four from UWA) and postgraduate teaching and service.
