Monique Platell is a researcher fellow in the School of Allied Health at the University of Western Australia. Monique completed her PhD 2020, entitled Determinants of Access and Continued Use of Mental Health Services for Adolescents: a Mixed Methods Study. Her thesis explored the factors influencing adolescents’ mental health service access and use in Perth. Dr Platell’s expertise lies in qualitative research and central to her doctoral research were the perspectives of adolescent mental health consumers and mental health professionals to identify gaps and barriers in the mental health system. Leading this research Dr Platell developed her passion for mental health advocacy, ensuring that all in our community have equitable access to mental health care to promote happy and healthy lives.
Dr Platell’s current position is under the Thoughtful Schools Project led by Dr Karen Martin. This early intervention program is a toolkit for schools based on current best-evidence to assist schools in becoming trauma informed. .
Dr Platell has also previously worked in Transforming Indigenous Mental Health and Wellbeing Project led by Professor Pat Dudgeon, specifically investigating cultural safety within mental health services.
