Dr. Mohammed El-Hakim is a Lecturer of Clinical Dentistry at the UWA Dental School, where he teaches restorative dentistry across the program at both the preclinical and clinical levels, as well as patient communication. He is also the DMD Assessment and Curriculum Coordinator, responsible for developing the DMD final-year OSCE assessment and overseeing assessments at the entire DMD level.
With over 20 years of clinical experience in general dental practice and restorative dentistry, Dr. El-Hakim brings a wealth of knowledge to his teaching. His master’s degree in counseling (psychotherapy) enhances his ability to teach patient-centered care and communication, ensuring students develop strong interpersonal and clinical skills.
Dr. El-Hakim is actively involved in multiple professional organizations, including the RACDS, where he serves as a Board of Studies member and a lead item writer and examiner for postgraduate dental programs, and AHPRA, where he is a panel member.
His expertise in curriculum and assessment development extends to running dental simulations, designing practical skills assessments, and developing OSCE items. He also has an interest in exploring technology-driven advancements in dental education, particularly in assessment development. Through his leadership in curriculum review and assessment innovation, he plays a critical role in advancing dental education and student competency evaluation.
