Biography

I am a PhD researcher at the UWA School of Agriculture and Environment, The University of Western Australia and currently studying industrial hemp (iHemp), a non-drug fiber and seed producing variety of Cannabis sativa L. My proposed PhD research entitles, "Optimising agronomy of industrial hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) cultivation in south Western Australia". Professionally, I am an agronomist with specialisation in fibre crops breeding and have been working for 17 years at the Breeding Division of Bangladesh Jute Research Institute, a non-profit government research organization deals with jute (Corchorus sp.) and allied fiber crops. Formerly, I worked as a Biotechnologist and Adjunct Faculty at Basic & Applied Research on Jute Project, Bangladesh Jute Research Institute and the School of Life Science, Independent University, Bangladesh, respectively. I was involved in my country in sequencing of two commercially cultivated jute species, Corchorus olitorius L. (dark jute) and Corchorus capsularis L. (white jute) and one devastating plant pathogenic fungus, Macrophomina phaseolina that attacks more than 500 plant species worldwide including jute.
