Biography
I'm a researcher at the University of Western Australia with interests that lie at the intersection of history, cultural studies and critical theory. My PhD project – titled “‘I remake my universe every time I use a verse’: rap music and the changing same of anti-racist struggle in 21st century America” – centred on histories of anti-Black racism and the various anti-racist movements which have arisen in opposition to these histories. In particular, I explore the ways in which rap musicians offer counterhegemonic critiques of and, on occasion, alternatives to oppressive structures.
Since April 2024, I have been a History Reviews Editor for the Australasian Journal of American Studies.
