Personal profile
Biography
My main area of research and clinical practice is insomnia and sleep disorders in adults. I've worked in the field of Behavioural Sleep Medicine (aka sleep psychology) since 2002. I and the founding director of Sleep Matters and J&R Clinical Psychology clinicis in Perth.
After completing my masters and PhD at UWA in 2001, I worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at Oxford University. During this time I worked on a trial of cognitive therapy for Insomnia and projects investigating and measuring insomnia maintaining processes.
Since moving back to Perth I've worked as a clinical psychologist in hospital and private practice settings. I founded Jeffery&Ree clinical psychologists and Sleep Matters, teams who provide sleep and clinical psychology interventions and conduct training in evidence-based insomnia treatment.
My key research interests include:
- Investigating the effectiveness of CBT-Insomnia in various populations including, psychiatric patients, psychotic illness, and older adults.
- Development and evaluation of a brief sleep intervention in university students.
- Understanding the positive impact of insomnia treatment on mental health disorders and symptoms.
- Investigation variables that affect treatment outcome.
- The relationship between changes in self-reported versus objectively measured sleep on insomnia, quality of life, and mental health outcomes.
- The impact of ACT and mindfulness in combination with CBT-Insomnia.
I am available for PhD supervision, though not as a primary supervisor since my role is predominantly offsite.
