Dr Mejbah Bhuiyan is an early career microbiologist, infectious disease epidemiologist with interests in paediatric respiratory infections and immunisation and with an outstanding track record for his stage of career. Dr Bhuiyan is a Post-Doctoral Researcher with Wesfarmers Centre for Vaccines and Infectious Diseases, Telethon Kids Institute, Perth, WA and is currently leading the Epidemiological part of a clinical trial on respiratory illness at Perth Children’s Hospital.

Dr Bhuiyan has more than 8 years of workings experience as epidemiologist in both developing (Bangladesh) and developed (Australia) setting. He led several infectious disease surveillance programs with focus on maternal and child heath, which sought to understand, i) the role of respiratory viruses in causing hospitalization with respiratory viruses among children <5 years in Bangladesh; ii) influenza-associated infection burden in pregnant women in Bangladesh; iii) the epidemiology of hospital acquired infections in Bangladesh; iv) role of respiratory pathogens in childhood pneumonia in Western Australia.

Dr Bhuiyan completed his PhD at the University of Western Australia in 2019 and his thesis provided the most comprehensive microbiological and epidemiological data on cause of pneumonia in Australian children till date. He has established collaboration with several national and international infectious disease researchers and has led several successful grant applications. He is an expert epidemiologist with strength in modern statistical analysis. He has published >20 research manuscripts, 9 as lead author (6 in last 3 years). He had been invited to present research findings in several national and international conferences.
