Dr. Mehdi Rajabi Asadabadi obtained his PhD in 2019 from the University of New South Wales. He worked for a few years as a Research Fellow in Project Management at the Australian National University. Then, he joined the University of Sydney, as a lecturer for a few years, after which he joined the University of Western Australia. Mehdi looks at expanding knowledge on project management and decision support systems. During his PhD study, he worked on project scoping (specifying requirements in large-scale projects). In 2018, he introduced to the literature, the stratified decision making approach. After completing the PhD, he worked on enhancing the quality of estimates (time, cost, and target benefits) in large-scale projects using innovative versions of his stratified approach. His main research stream contributes to the development of a quality assurance framework for large-scale projects. In this framework, he considers factors such as risk and uncertainty. This is particularly important as we know project time and cost are often underestimated and project benefits are overestimated, for reasons such as optimism bias and strategic misrepresentation. A proposal with unrealistic estimates can result in the rejection of a solid proposal with realistic estimates and the approval of a project with more attractive but unrealistic estimates. His work can be of great value as significant amounts of resources and extensive networks of suppliers are required for large-scale projects for years or decades. So, a wrong investment decision on a large-scale project may result in the inefficient use of significant resources which will have unnecessary negative long-lasting social, economic and environmental impacts on the nation and worldwide. To avoid this, Mehdi's research is focused on enhancing the reliability of information in the project planning phase using his stratified based approaches. This ultimately lead to the development of a quality assurance framework to assist decisions such as whether to invest in a project.
