Biography

Dr Cooper is a Biostatistician with over 15 years of active engagement in health research. As manager of Biometrics at the Telethon Kids Institute, Dr Cooper leads a team that delivers specialist biostatistical and data management support to researchers both at the Institute and across the broader WA child-health research community. Dr Cooper has worked, and continues to work, with a variety of datatypes (biomarker, clinical, genetic, population-based, administrative), across a variety of different study designs (clinical trials, cross-sectional studies, cohort/longitudinal studies), across a variety of heath domains (cancer, diabetes, infectious disease, nutrition, neurodevelopmental, racism, respiratory).

Dr Cooper’s PhD research utilised large population-based administrative linked data to explore early adulthood complications related to a childhood onset chronic condition (type 1 diabetes). More recently, Dr Cooper has been involved in supporting a range of large cohort studies including both the ORIGINs study and the WAACHS longitudinal follow-up study (providing study design and data capture/management support).

Dr Cooper specializes in longitudinal clinical research and clinical trials research; having collaborated on and led multiple research projects of these kinds (see recent publications). This experience includes both traditional parallel group design and contemporary adaptive trial design.
