Biography

Mark Lindsay is a Research Fellow in the School of Earth Sciences, Centre for Exploration Targeting, at the University of Western Australia. His research interests include complexities of uncertainty and ambiguity in 3D geological and mineral exploration modelling, and the process and psychology of data interpretation. These themes are an important field of research that have the potential to have a large impact on current practices of deterministic modelling and risk assessment. Mark is working toward a stochastic approach to modelling that attempts to understand the importance of different data types in answering geoscientific questions.

Industrial relevance

Mark is a member of the executive team for the recently annouced DARE ARC Industrial Transformation Training Centre which brings together a diverse range of industry partners to work on analysing risk in a natural science context. Mark has also been involved in a number of MRIWA industry/state government collaborations in the Capricorn Orogen, Yamarna Region (Eastern Yilgarn) and the Paterson Orogen. Mark is a member of the Loop Consortium, a group of research organsations, government agencies and industry partners and part of the MinEx Co-operative Research Centre. Mark is member of a newly funded ARC Linkage project that is working with industry and academia to develop techniques related to numerical and analogue modelling of Basins.
