Dr. Mariana Atkins is an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at the Business School of UWA. She is a human geographer and planner who has been involved in conducting research and evaluation projects across various areas including financial resilience and disasters, ageing and aged care, homelessness, unemployment and disability. She worked in the Department of Geography from 2013 to 2018 and at the Centre for Social Impact (CSI UWA) from 2018 to 2025. Mariana has experience in program and evaluation design and the development of quantitative and qualitative research methods, and has taught widely across a number of units in Geography and Planning, as well as the Outcomes Measurement courses at CSI UWA.
Mariana has extensive research and planning experience in developed and developing countries. She has a PhD. in Geography and Planning from the University of Western Australia, an MSc. (Distinction) in Social Policy and Planning from the London School of Economics and a BA(Hons) in Geography from University College London. Mariana is a Fellow of the Royal Geographic Society.
