Biography

Machiel originates from the Netherlands and lived for a few years in the United States of America before moving to Western Australia, where he started his part-time PhD research study at the University of Western Australia alongside his regular job.

Machiel is passionate about electronics engineering, particularly embedded electronics, virtual reality, and telecommunication engineering in research settings. With this passion he supports to create a better understanding of public health risks, such as road safety issues, air pollution, and Type 1 Diabetes to improve health outcomes in society.

Machiel is also an avid badminton player in addition to walking, yoga, strength and aerobical training. He enjoys writing stories or play the piano (absolute fav is Gnossienne No. 4 from Erik Satie) if there is time left, alongside his regular volunteering at the local Dutch Club, Badminton Club, and the Union.
