Dr. Luke Omoarelojie specialises in the stress physiology and biochemistry of flowering plants and the application of natural products and biotechnological techniques in the management of abiotic stress in plants.
His research interests include:
Currently, Dr. Omoarelojie's work focuses on developing practical, biocompatible, and cost-effective seed enhancement technologies to improve seedling survival and promote the successful establishment of native species in mined environments. By combining organic plant biostimulants with seed enhancement techniques (e.g., priming, coating, and pelleting), his research aims to address the challenges of native species establishment in post-mining restoration.
The outcomes of his current research are designed to empower mining companies, restoration practitioners, and government agencies with practical seed and seedling management solutions, ultimately improving the effectiveness of ecological restoration efforts and supporting sustainable mineral resource exploitation with reduced negative footprints on the environment.
The Australian Seed Scaling Initiative (ASSI) focuses on increasing the efficiency of seed performance in ecosystem rehabilitation for mined and agricultural landscapes.
Restoration Engineering Seed Technology Deployment (RESTD) focuses on optimising and deploying seed distribution mechanisms and seed enhancement technologies to improve the feasibility and success of large-scale ecosystem restoration.
