Personal profile


Dr Furfaro is a Raine/Robson and Forrest Prospect Fellow in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences within the Division of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Her research focuses on the field of perinatal microbiology, in particular perinatal pathogens and exploration of antibiotic alternatives such as bacteriophage therapy. Lucy has a strong discovery to translation focus to her research and is an active science communicator.

Research interests

Microbiology, bacteriophage biology and therapy, antimicrobial resistance and alternative therapies, perinatal pathogens, Group B Streptococcus (Streptococcus agalactiae) and infectious diseases more broadly.
