Biography

I am a Professor at the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR). My research is oriented towards frontline radio astronomical observations with world-class facilities, and preparing the path for future telescopes such as the Square Kilometre Array (SKA), part of which is being constructed in Western Australia. I am co-Principal Investigator of the WALLABY survey on the Australian SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP) which is making new discoveries about galaxies, and ARC Lead Investigator for a new cryogenic phased array feed being deployed on CSIRO's Murriyang telescope.

Roles and responsibilities

Professor - International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR); Co-chair, Australia-China Consrtium for Astrophysical Research (ACAMAR); Chair, CSIRO's Australia Telescope National Facility Steering Committee.

Previous positions

Interim Executive Director ICRAR; Science Director ICRAR/UWA; Node leader ASTRO 3D; CAASTRO Deputy director and node leader; ASA President; Premier's Fellow; AAL Director; Head of Astrophysics CSIRO-ATNF

Research

Galaxies (dark matter, kinematics, star-formation, Magellanic Clouds) - cosmology (large-scale structure, flows) - supernovae and their remnants - Instrumentation (SKA, ASKAP, MWA).

Current projects

I am involved in projects being undertaken on the ASKAP, MWA, ATCA and FAST telescopes which have been awarded thousands of hours of observing time. I have PhD, Masters and Hons projects available within the WALLABY project on ASKAP. Follow this link for details. Contact me directly for other projects.
