Lidya Pawestri Ayuningtyas

Lidya Pawestri Ayuningtyas is a third-year PhD student in Translation Studies at the University of Western Australia, sponsored by the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education. Her PhD research aims to gain insights into the translation of sex-related language in teenlit (teenage literature) and young adult novels from English into Indonesian, as well as to understand the societal norms and cultural considerations at the time of publication. The study contributes to the understanding of translation practices and (self-)censorship, and provides insights for translators dealing with taboo topics such as explicit or graphic sex-related language and scenes, particularly in the context of teenlit and YA novels and Indonesia's literary landscape. 

Prior to her studies in Australia, she earned her master’s degree in TESOL from University College London (2016), a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Universitas Indonesia (2015), and a diploma in Publishing from Politeknik Negeri Jakarta (2011). In 2019–2020, she was a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant for Indonesian at the University of Michigan. 

She worked as a lecturer in English and Translation units at Politeknik Negeri Jakarta from 2015 to 2025. She has also been teaching Indonesian as a foreign language in Indonesia, the USA, and Australia. Outside academia, Lidya is a freelance translator and an author with a young adult novel, short stories, and poetry published in Indonesia and elsewhere.
