Biography

Li Ju received her PhD from the University of Western Australia (UWA) in 1996 and is currently a Professor in the Department of Physics at UWA.

Prof. Ju's primary research interest is in developing technologies for improving gravitational wave detector sensitivities.  Her research has covered a wide range of aspects of the noise reduction techniques related to gravitational wave detectors, from seismic noise, suspension thermal noise, and test mass thermal noise, to control of parametric instability to maintain low shot noise. More recently she has worked on techniques for 3rd generation detectors including creating low thermal noise resonators for whitelight cavity to improve high frequency detector sensitivity.  Currently, she is a chief investigator at the ARC Centre for Gravitational Wave Discovery (OzGrav).  She is also a chief investigator in a Linkage project industry for developing airborne survey instruments.

In addition to her gravitational research pursuits, Prof. Ju is deeply passionate about science education. She actively participates in educational initiatives, serving as a chief investigator for an ARC project focused on Teaching Einsteinian Physics in Schools as well as in a Government Women in STEM and Entrepreneurship (WISE) grant—Quantum Girls.

Prof. Ju is currently the program chair for the Master of Physics and Physics Honours programs. She also takes on the responsibility of coordinating Physics 1st and 2nd-year laboratories, ensuring a hands-on and engaging learning experience for the students.
