Personal profile

Biography

I started my academic career as an agriculturalist. With time, I developed the interest in the areas of soil fertility and plant nutrition, crop growth and development, plant-water relationships and crop modelling. Therefore, my overall objective is to explore the possibilities of improving nutrient and water-use efficiencies in agro-ecosystems through agronomic approaches to ensure the sustainability of agro-ecosystems.

Improving the livelihood of rural, subsistence farming communities in developing countries such as Sri Lanka is very important, as farming directly contributes to the household economy, food security and human nutrition. Collaboration between the staff of UWA in the past has improved and strengthened the effectiveness of research activities conducted.
