Personal profile

Biography

I am a PhD candidate in Linguistics, a Language Lab member, and a Forrest Research Foundation scholar. I have a strong background in sociolinguistics, language contact, and pidgin and creole studies.

My PhD explores Aboriginal English as spoken in the Pilbara, where I will examine the language repertoires of Indigenous communities using a participatory approach. I seek to contribute to the decolonisation of linguistics and the social sciences by engaging with communities in meaningful and culturally safe ways. I will form sustainable relationships, build capacity for community members, and engage Aboriginal English speakers throughout all stages of the research, challenging prevailing power relations between the researcher and the researched, and reflecting on my positionality. My research also investigates how First Nations people and communities use AI-operated technology for a more inclusive and socially just world.
