Roles and responsibilities
Kate was Dean/Head of the School of Design from 2017-2025, during which time she led the academic mission of the school to deliver transformative, inspiring and impactful education, research and engagement. She has been an academic at UWA for 25 years and is an award-winning educator and practitioner in architecture.
Industrial relevance
Kate is a registered architect in Western Australia (ABWA 1747). Between 1990 and 1999 she was employed in various architectural offices in Perth (Western Australia) as well as in private practice. She has also undertaken architectural consultancies as a UWA employee.
Throughout her employment as an academic at UWA she has maintained strong involvement in the architectural profession at state and national levels. She is a long term member of the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) and held positions as a Chapter Councillor (WA) as well as membership of the WA Practice Committee and WA Publications Committee. She was the first female editor of the long-running journal 'The Architect' (WA). She has participated in juries for the Architecture Awards (WA) and in 2014 was Chair of Juries. She has been a member of the Architects Board (WA); and an examiner of candidates presenting for the Australian Practice Examination (APE). She is currently the Chair of the National Advisory Panel to the AACA (Architects Accreditation Council of Australia) and has participated in two reviews of the National Standard of Competency for Architects, as well as numerous accreditation panels across Australia.
