Biography

Dr Jun Yuan received a Bachelor’s Degree of Clinical Medicine from Wuhan University, China, in June 2015 and a Master’s Degree of Medicine (Surgery) from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China, in June 2018. During this period, Dr Yuan focused on the causes and treatments of ageing-related bone disorders, such as osteoporosis and osteoarthritis.

In August 2018, Dr Yuan began pursuing a doctorate in biomedical science at the University of Western Australia. Throughout the PhD study, Dr Yuan investigated the role of bone-derived factors in the pathogenesis of osteoporosis and Alzheimer’s disease (AD). This research led to the groundbreaking discovery of a correlation between the levels of a bone-derived protein named sclerostin in the blood and abnormal deposition of amyloid-β in the brains of older adults with preclinical AD. Dr Yuan successfully completed the PhD viva voce in November 2022 and was awarded the doctorate degree in July 2023.

Currently as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Perron Institute for Neurological and Translational Science, and a Adjunct Research Fellow of School of Biomedical Sciences, the University of Western Australia, Dr Jun Yuan specializes in studying the intricate connection between bone and brain health. His research focuses on uncovering bone-derived factors involved in neurodegenerative diseases and advancing novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. Through this work, Dr Jun Yuan aims to improve understanding and treatment of complex ageing-related disorders.
