John Walsh holds the positions of Consultant Endocrinologist at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth, Western Australia and Clinical Professor in the Medical School at the University of Western Australia. Originally from Scotland, his undergraduate medical training was in University College, Oxford and Newcastle University, England. He trained in internal medicine in Christchurch, New Zealand, then moved to Australia for advanced training in endocrinology and diabetes in Perth and Melbourne. His doctoral research was at Prince Henry's Institute of Medical Research, Melbourne. Since 1999, he has held his primary appointment as an endocrinologist at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, with clinical interests across the breadth of endocrinology and diabetes. He has research interests in the clinical and genetic epidemiology and management of thyroid disease and in calcium-related disorders and metabolic bone disease, and has published over 130 scientific papers.
