Biography

Dr Jim Rhoads has retitred from full-time employment and is currently undertaking research into Papuan Gulf spirit boards and social identity.

His professional career has two parts. For more than 30 years he was an anthropologist / archaeologist specialising in Papua New Guinea and Australian Indigenous cultures. Second, he also served as a senior / executive manager with the Commonwealth and two State governments for about 18 years - specialising in strategic planning and policy development and review. During the last 14 years of his public service employment, Jim was involved with the W.S. Lonnie Awards, first as the IPAA Council member responsible for overseeing the awards’ redevelopment and management, then later as a judge.
