Biography

Dr Jian Zhao is a Senior Research Officer at the Graduate School of Education, The University of Western Australia (UWA), and a Visiting Scholar at Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU). She was awarded a PhD in Education from UWA in July 2023. Her academic background centres on mental health measurement and assessment, with methodological expertise in mixed-methods research.

Dr Zhao has contributed to several research projects focusing on the mental health of Chinese international students in Australia, the prediction of depression of young people in Western Australia, generative AI (GenAI) and educational assessment, and AI and mental health. Her research has been published in a number of international peer-reviewed journals, including Frontiers in Psychology, Frontiers in Education, Behavioral Sciences, International Journal of Qualitative Studies on Health and Well-being, and Education Research & Perspectives. Her core research interests include mental health measurement, assessment design and AI in assessment and mental health.
