Personal profile

Biography

I completed my honours degree with the University of Western Australia's Centre for Integrative Bee Research (Baer Lab) and Centre for Evolutionary Biology (Firman Lab), studying honey bee reproductive biology. In 2018, I started my PhD with the CRC for Honey Bee Products in Dr Julia Grassl's Honey Bee Health Research Group. My PhD is investigating the smell (volatile biomarkers) of the honey bee disease American foulbrood in order to create a “beehive breathalyser” sensor that can diagnose sick hives.

Community engagement

I frequently promote science and agriculture through conferences, social media, and direct involvement with community events such as National Science Week, Farming Champions’ Farmer on Your Plate, the Honey Festival and UWA's Open Day. Through my collaboration with the Department of Primary Industries and Rural Development, I am an ambassador for science-informed beekeeping practices, delivering workshops and presentations to improve biosecurity within the bee industry.
