Biography

Jason grew up in Canberra, and completed his Bachelors of Global and Ocean Sciences (Hons) with a double major in Geology at ANU in 2011. During his Honours, Jason conducted high pressure and temperature experiments examining "The effects of Ni and Cu on the Sulfur Content at Sulfide Saturation of Basaltic Magmas". After completing his thesis, he then joined the BHP Billiton Graduate Program in 2012. After three years of Iron Ore in the Pilbara, working both exploration and mine geology roles, Jason returned to academia to pursue a PhD at the Centre for Exploration Targeting, UWA. His PhD thesis, "On the geochemistry of cassiterite", examined the chemical variability of growth microstructures in cassiterite, and how they may be used to constrain ore forming processes in Sn-bearing mineral systems (such as Ta-Nb-Li Pegmatites, Sn-W greisen and vein systems, and polymetallic Cu-Pb-Zn-Sn skarn systems).

Post PhD, Jason is continuing his work on sulfur transport, along with further development of the cassiterite multi-tool.

Research interests

Jason's primary research interests include the transport, segregation, and enrichment of elements during geological processes, and the resulting mineralogical diversity of ore deposits. Jason's secondary research interests span practically anything related to the Earth Sciences, i.e., anything that doesn't try to crawl away when you put it down.
