Biography
Jane Kirkham is a PhD candidate in the Graduate School of Education at the University of Western Australia. She is investigating motivational factors that underlie gendered decision-making about mathematics courses in senior secondary school students. She has presented her work at international conferences and in 2021 she was awarded the Western Australian Institute for Educational Research (WAIER) - Fogarty Foundation Postgraduate Student Research Prize. Her research interests lie in the motivation, engagement, and the wellbeing of school students and teachers.
Professionally, Jane is an Educational and Developmental Psychologist currently employed by a non-profit organisation to provide a range of psychological services at independent schools in Western Australia. Jane also has an extensive teaching background with experience in mainstream, gifted, and inclusive education at primary and secondary levels in Australia, United Kingdom, and in South Africa. In 2017 her service to education was acknowledged with an Outstanding Professional Service Award presented by the Professional Teaching Council of Western Australia (PTCWA).
