Biography

Ignacio is Spanish born, and he is Principal Geochemist at CSIRO in Australia. He completed his BSc and MSc specializing in stratigraphy and sedimentary basins analysis. His PhD focussed on the geochemical characterization of sedimentary packages.

Ignacio has conducted geological research and mineral exploration projects on five continents, including Canada, the USA, Papua New Guinea, Australia, China, India, Spain, Norway, Poland, South Africa, Congo and Brazil.

Ignacio’s work at CSIRO involves coordinating a diverse portfolio of multi-disciplinary and data integration projects in different regions within Australia. His leading research is focused on various aspects related to trace element mobility in the earth’s crust, mineral systems, REE and HFSE, surface processes and geochemistry of sedimentary systems.

In the last 15 years, Ignacio has focussed on studying basement and cover features and their applicability to detect distal footprints of ore deposits as mineral exploration tools.

Ignacio is a panel member of several diverse non-profit organizations that promote Earth Sciences. He is an adjunct Research Fellow at the University of Western Australia. Ignacio has broad experience as Associate Editor of several International Journals such as Ore Geology Reviews, Frontiers for Earth Sciences and Minerals.
