Personal profile

Biography

First and foremost, I am an engineer working to solve problems in agriculture.  I have been involved with data analysis, remote sensing, drones and machine learning for the last 18 years. Agentic Artificial Intelligence will have a profound effect on agriculture, via smart automation and enhanced decision-making. I strive to contribute to this promise through non-naive, expert-based solutions.

I hold a B.Sc. with honours from the University of Sao Paulo (ESALQ - Agronomic Engineering), a double-degree M.Sc. (Universidade Politecnica de Madrid and Montpellier SupAgro), and a double-degree PhD (University of Tasmania and Wageningen University).

The University of Sao Paulo - ESALQ is usually listed as a Top-10 Agriculture/Forestry University in Global rankings. Wageningen University consistently holds the 1st  place.

Prior to joining UWA, I worked at the University of Missouri as a postdoctoral scholar and at the University of Melbourne as a lecturer.

In Industry, I worked as an assistant commodity-trader (physicals) and a startup-founder (UAV and false infrared cameras).

Research interests

I am interested in sensing and analytics. In particular fast prototyping of sensors, modeling of physical phenomena and deployment to end-users.

In practice, this translates to multi-camera array (multispectral data), self-balancing platforms (gimbals), internet of things, machine deep learning, and MLOps. I use these skills to create actionable solutions to the agricultural industry.
