Personal profile

Biography

I am a specialist emergency physician with extensive clinical experience in the care of the older person. Since 2008 I have held this position at the University of Western Australia that focusses on research in the older patient within the ED. This research has a clinical and systems-of-care focus. I have been an invited speaker at numerous local, national and international meetings in relation to geriatric emergency medicine.  I have prominent roles in the development of best practice guidelines for management of acute geriatric syndromes at an international, national, state and local hospital level.

In the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) I previously held several prominent positions including chair of the Geriatric Emergency Medicine Special Interest Group and membership of the scientific committee.

I designed and lead the FSH ED Falls Pathway which manages 3000 patients p.a. and uses standardised assessments to achieve markedly improved outcomes in older fallers. I am senior author of the Acute Geriatric Series for Emergency Medicine Australasia that summarises best practice evidence for common geriatric emergencies.
