An Anatomical Pathologist with extensive diagnostic, research and teaching experience.
I am a highly experienced Anatomical Pathologist with extensive diagnostic, research and teaching experience. I have practiced diagnostic anatomical pathology and cytopathology in the UK (University of Cambridge), USA (Johns Hopkins) and Australia. In Anatomical Pathology, I have analysed many thousands of biopsies from all tissue sites utilising haematoxylin and eosin, Giemsa, cytochemical and immunohistochemical stains. My publications in these fields have progressed diagnostic tissue pathology. My cytopathology practice includes performance and analysis of fine needle aspirate and other body fluids.
My research expertise includes assessing the pathology genetics and diseas associations; such as the absence of SMIM1 and weight, aldopsterone-producing tumours and gene expresssion networks. I am experienced in assessing animal models of disease , work which commenced at the Wellcome Sanger Institute (Cambridge). I have assessed comparative pathology after transposon-induced mutagenesis (PiggyBac and Sleeping Beauty - publications in Nature Communications and Nature Genetics) and BrafV600E induced tumorgenesis. I established a mouse pathology consortium for WA with collaborations in 2011. My interest in haemopoiesis includes stem cell proliferation and stem cell enhancers. I have collaborated extensively with researchers in Cambridge (G Vassiliou), Germany (R Rad) and HPI (N Laing).
I have taught medical students at Johns Hopkins (Baltimore, USA) and UWA Medical Schools. My current role is in working with 1st and 2nd year students in understanding tissue pathology utilising specimens in the UWA Pathology Education and Learning Centre (the Hadley pathology collection). Specific details are:
I am retired from remunerative employment and give my time and expertise for worthwhile research and teaching endeavors.
