Personal profile

I'm a post-doctoral Research Fellow at the Sea Around Us – IO research initiative at the University of Western Australia. As a marine scientist, I combine my background in marine ecology and fisheries science to address important marine conservation issues. Prior to my appointment at UWA I worked for several years as a marine scientist for conservation organizations in Brazil, using my technical expertise to translate scientific knowledge into science-based fisheries management recommendations to improve management of small-scale and industrial fisheries.

I also have a strong professional interest in shark ecology. During my PhD at UWA, I implemented a multi-disciplinary project to examine the potential of shark-diving tourism as a tool for conservation throughout the Indo-Pacific. My professional career is influenced by years working as a field marine biologist and dive instructor on the Great Barrier Reef, where I was involved in several research and conservation projects, while also promoting science and conservation to the general public.
