Biography

Prof. Franco Pirajno, has a Doctoral degree in Geological Sciences from the Vesuvius Volcano Observatory, University Federico II. He has considerable experience in tectonics, ore deposit geology and mineral exploration in many parts of the world. Following a spell as a post-doctoral research scientist at the Vesuvius Volcano Observatory, he worked for the Anglo-American Corporation of South Africa Ltd, as Exploration Manager of the Corporation’s activities in the South West Pacific. In 1983 he was appointed to the Chair of Exploration Geology at Rhodes University, Grahamstown, South Africa. In 1993 joined the Geological Survey of Western Australia till October 2015. Currently, Franco is Adjunct Professor at The University of Western Australia, Chengdu University of Technology, PR China, Honorary Professor at China University of Geosciences, Honorary Research Fellow at Natural History Museum, London. Franco Pirajno is the single author of 4 books. He was nominated as a top 1% Highly Cited Researcher in 2019.

In the last 25 years Franco Pirajno has worked extensively in Western Australia’s Proterozoic terranes and was instrumental in the discovery of a new large igneous province in Australia. Visiting Professor at Peking University in 2003 and China University of Geosciences, Beijing in 2004. Distinguished Foreign Professor at Hefei University of Technology, September-October 2012. Appointed Editor-in- Chief of Ore Geology Reviews in March 2012, terminated in December 2022 and Series Editor of Solid Earth Sciences (Springer) in November 2012. Editor-in-Chief of journal Ore and Resources Ore Geology.

Franco Pirajno has 246 published peer-reviewed papers, sole-author of 4 books and co-author of another book, 6 edited book chapters and 69 unpublished industry-related papers.
