Personal profile

I am a PhD candidate in European Languages and Studies at The University of Western Australia. I completed my bachelor’s degree in Modern Letters and my master’s degree in Modern Philology at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart of Milan in 2011 and in 2013. My PhD project investigates the construction and expression of friendship networks in the correspondence of nineteenth-century missionaries in Australia. Adopting a linguistic perspective, my study describes the interaction between the epistolary form, politeness and deference, and the expression of emotions. As part of my research, I am developing an original approach to the historical-linguistic analysis of emotions. Other research interest of mine are the semantic history of emotion words, and e-learning technologies for langauge education.
