Dr. Fitalew Taye is an experienced Environmental Economist and a Research Fellow at the Centre for Environmental Economics and Policy. He is working in the Coastal Blue Carbon project which is led by Deakin University and funded by the Department of Climate Chang, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW). His role is undertaking a project-level environmental economic accounting for wetland restoration in two case study areas. Before joining the Centre, he has been working as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Griffith University and conducted several studies on valuation of forest ecosystem services and analysis of community preferences for conservation of tropical primary forests using PES schemes. Recently, he has completed a case study for an assessment of adoption for climate smart technologies in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in collaboration with researchers at Griffith and the Woodwell Climate Research Centre, USA. He is interested in the application of stated preference methods, benefit-cost analysis, and environmental economic accounting.
