Biography
Fangbin Lin is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Accounting at the Accounting and Finance Department of The University of Western Australia Business School (UWA Business School). His research draws on psychology theories to investigate the behavioral implications of using algorithms and artificial intelligence (AI) to support individual judgment and decision-making, particularly in the areas of management accounting and accounting information systems (AIS).
Fangbin holds a Ph.D. in Accounting degree from UNSW Sydney, an M.Sc. in Business Analytics degree from the National University of Singapore, and a B.Econ. in Finance degree from the Capital University of Economics and Business. Before joining UWA Business School in 2026, Fangbin worked as a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in AIS at the University of Auckland (2024-2025), and as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Management Accounting at UNSW Sydney (2023-2024). Prior to his career in academia, Fangbin was a data analyst at Lenovo Global Analytics Hub (Singapore, 2015-2018), and a PTA for the steel and mining research team at Wood Mackenzie (Beijing, 2013-2014).
Fangbin has received multiple awards for his research, including the UNSW Scientia Ph.D. Scholarship and AAA MAS Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award Runner-Up. Fangbin's research work has been published in The Accounting Review, and featured in practitioner literature. He currently serves as an ad hoc reviewer for multiple journals, including Accounting and Finance, International Journal of Accounting Information Systems, and Journal of Information Systems.
Fangbin is experienced in supervising and examining theses employing experimental and qualitative research methods. He welcomes students to apply for his supervision for their Honours, M.Phil. and/or Ph.D. research projects.
