Roles and responsibilities

My key duties include: cell culture and bone cell extraction/differentiation, RNA/protein extraction, qPCR, histology, histomorphometry and micro-CT analysis of bone architecture. In addition, I participate in the daily management of the laboratory, perform ordering of reagents, assist with data presentation, perform laboratory safety inductions, establish standard operating procedures and lab protocols, and actively assist with the supervision of PhD and Honours students.

Current projects

* Evaluation of Collagen Nerve Wraps Used in Peripheral Nerve Repair in a Rat Sciatic Nerve Injury Model.

Previous projects

- A key role is to contribute to the development of an Australian-sourced collagen membrane for use in bone and soft tissue regeneration.

This project involves characterisation of the physical and chemical properties of a newly developed native collagen membrane, and evaluation of its regenerative performance in the treatment of bone cortex defects and dental implant in animal models (Rabbit and Dog).

The properties of the collagen membrane implant in soft tissue repair are also being investigated in rabbits following anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction.

In collaboration with an orthopaedic specialist, and forming part of translational studies, I also examine the collagen structure of the human rotator cuff tendon.

- The role of Roquin in bone homeostasis
- Membrane Trafficking in Skeletal Homeostasis and Disease
- The role of Structural protein Myo1b in Bone-Resorbing Osteoclasts
- Novel NFkB inhibitors in Osteolysis
