I graduated from the Robert Gordon University (Scotland) in 2012 with a Masters of Social Work qualification, and worked in frontline child protection services in rural Scotland for 3 years prior to relocating to Australia. Since coming to Australia, I have worked for the (now) Department of Communities - Child Protection and Family Support division for 6 years, as a Child Protection Worker, Senior Child Protection Worker and Team Leader.
I have experience of working with children deemed at risk of harm in their parents' care, as well as with children who have been brought into care and who may remain in foster or alternative care throughout their childhoods.
I previously worked as an emergency foster carer, welcoming children requiring a short-term placement for up to 7 nights.
My current research is exploring the development of a formal system of foster care in Iraqi Kurdistan.
