Biography
Emma is a PhD candidate at the University of Western Australia researching urban forest regulation, with a focus on increasing canopy cover through policy and regulatory reform. She holds a Bachelor of Laws from UWA and a Master of Environmental Management from ECU.
Emma's professional background spans legal practice and environmental policy development. She trained as a lawyer in Perth, advancing to senior associate positions at top-tier law firms in Melbourne and London. In 2004 Emma led a policy team for the British Government introducing new legislation in the UK and in 2007 she co-authored a textbook on UK Competition Procedure, published by Oxford University Press. Emma has volunteered extensively with The Woodland Trust (UK) and the Environmental Defenders Office (WA), receiving the Bluebell Award for Best Guardian of Woods and Trees in 2015.
Currently serving as a volunteer Board Advisor to Nature Conservation Margaret River Region, Emma has developed and led a comprehensive environmental advocacy program since 2022, providing a vital voice for local environmental protection through strategic written submissions on proposed regulatory and development proposals.
