Personal profile

Biography

I am a Communications Officer with the Centre for Water and Spatial Science at UWA and a Master of Science Communication student, also at UWA, due to complete in 2025. With an honours degree in Marine Biology, my diverse background includes experience working with NGOs, conservation organisations, consultancies, and researchers. I also have eight-plus years in the education sector, teaching students from toddlers to tertiary level, coupled with postgraduate qualifications in education. My science and education background culminated in my current move into science communication as an academic student, practitioner, and tutor.

Together, my passion for equitable education and inspiring others, particularly in the realms of science, conservation, and sustainability, drives my work to bridge science and society.

Research interests

I believe in the power of science communication for social justice: enabling all people to have the opportunity to engage with important issues that affect our lives and our planet. My Masters research on the values held by inclusive science communication (ISC) practitioners aims to bring the ISC community together through visibility and shared understanding of our common values.

Roles and responsibilities

As a communications officer, I put theory into practice, creating diverse and targeted content across multiple media, enabling effective and timely communication about impactful science research, and supporting interdisciplinarity to address complex human-environment problems.
