Biography
Dr Duncan Robert Cowan, B.Sc. Hons, PhD (Geology).
Consulting Geophysicist
Dr Cowan graduated from the University of Nottingham, England with B.Sc. Hons in Geology in 1963 and a Ph.D. on Scandinavian Caledonides in 1966. He has over 55 years’ experience in exploration geophysics and geology and has worked on all continents except Antarctica. Recent exploration experience includes projects in Finland, Australia, Canada, Brazil, Botswana, Mauritania and Tanzania. He works as a consulting geophysicist specializing in interpretation of magnetic, gravity, electromagnetic and radiometric data with emphasis on computer techniques for data enhancement, analysis and dataset integration. His research interests include kimberlites and lamproites, inversion of potential field data, aeromagnetic gradiometers and rock and mineral magnetism. He lectured at the Royal School of Mines, Imperial College, London from 1978 to 1989. He is a member of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers and the International Association for Mathematical Geology.
