Biography

Du Huynh obtained her Bachelors Degree with honours in Computer Science and her PhD both from UWA. After lecturing at Murdoch University for five years, she returned to UWA as a Senior Lecturer. She is currently with the Department of CSSE in the School of Physics, Mathematics and Computing. Her research interests include Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Object Detection, Visual Tracking, Image Processing, and Pattern Recognition.

Research and funding overview

Du Huynh's research interests include: automated on-line analysis in mineral ore processing, video surveillance over constrained networks, 3D human pose recognition from videos, multiple object tracking in videos, pedestrian trajectory prediction, video analytics in intelligent transportation systems, detection and classification of surgical instruments, bone cells, and other small objects from images.

Du Huynh has received 3 best paper awards for her research (ICPR2014, Kenneth Clarke Journal Award 2019, and AusDM2022). She is the finalist of the Excellence in Research and Development Award 2020 for her research in automated traffic video analytics and the finalist of the 21st WaiTTA Award for the Innovation category in 2012.

Her research has attracted over $3M research funding from the Australian Research Council (1 DP and 2 LPs), local companies, and the Australian Government. She is a Chief Investigator in the WA node for the Australian Centre for Quantum Growth, which has received $18M funding from the Australian Government for 2024-2027.

Teaching overview

Passionate about her teaching, Du Huynh has taken the lead to develop and teach a few medium to large units including Computer Vision,  Machine Learning, Graphics and Animation, Software Engineering, Computer Analysis And Visualisation, and Java Programming.

Du Huynh is on a 0.8 FTE appointment (since 2010) in UWA. From 2013 onward, she has been the Graduate Research Coordinator (GRC) of the Department of CSSE since 2013. Through her role, she has mentored many HDR students. She is a Level 3 (most senior) Supervisor and is the Viva Voce Chair for a PhD thesis in 2022.
