Debashish is a PhD student in UWA’s School of Population and Global Health, working under the supervision of Dr. Dani Barrington and Dr. Tim Robertson. Mr. Biswas received the Australian Research Training Program Scholarship and University Postgraduate Award to support his doctoral degree at UWA.
Prior to joining UWA, Debashish received a Bachelors degree with Honours and a Master degree in Anthropology from Jahangirnagar University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. He also holds a Master of Public Health Methodology with Distinction from The Université Libre de Bruxelles.
Debashish is an anthropologist focused on using social science and community engagement to improve public health delivery, with 12 years of experience working across various environmental health issues in Bangladesh. He is interested in understanding environmental impacts on public health, and developing and implementing strategies to improve the environment within which people live.
His doctoral research aims to understand the barriers to sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene service delivery in public schools in Bangladesh and identify a pathway to improve the situation.
In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. This person’s work contributes towards the following SDG(s):
