Personal profile
Biography
I completed my Bachelor of Science majoring in Plant Biology in 2013 at QNU (Vietnam). I worked as a researcher at an agricultural science institute (Vietnamese Academy of Agricultural Science) until December 2018. I was then awarded an Australia Awards Scholarship and moved to Perth to start my Master of Agricultural Science (Genetics and Breeding) at the University of Western Australia (UWA).
I am interested in studying Cytoplasmic Male Sterility and Restorer-of-Fertility systems (CMS/Rf) for hybrid crop breeding. I joined the ARC Centre of Excellence in Plant Energy Biology to start my Master thesis supervised by Professor Ian Small and Dr Joanna Melonek. The project focused on studying Restorer-of-Fertility (RF) proteins in Arabidopsis thaliana, particularly to a group of proteins known as RF-like mitochondrial Transcription Termination Factor (RFL-mTERF).
I obtained my Master's Degree with Distinction in December 2020. At the same time, I accepted a PhD position funded by UWA to continue developing strong Rf genes for hybrid wheat breeding. My PhD project is supervised by Professor Small, Professor Harvey Millar and Dr Melonek.
