Biography

Danilo Urzedo is a Human Geographer and Research Fellow at the University of Western Australia. Working at the intersection of political ecology and science and technology studies, he examines the political geographies of environmental knowledge, technologies, and markets.

Danilo completed a PhD in Human Geography at the University of Sydney. He has since held postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Cambridge and CSIRO. Prior to his academic career, he worked as a community forester in the Brazilian Amazon, collaborating with Indigenous and local communities to implement ecosystem restoration initiatives.

Research interests

Danilo's research interests lie in the politics of environmental expertise, data, and markets. He examines power relations, justice, and leadership  in the following areas:

  • Socio-economic impacts of environmental finance
  • Indigenous and community values in carbon and biodiversity markets
  • Environmental data justice in decision-making

He engages in practice-based research and collaborative methods, in partnership with Indigenous organisations, landholders, and local communities.

Current projects

Danilo is currently working with the ARC Training Centre for Healing Country, contributing to collaborative research on Indigenous restoration economies. His work focuses on amplifying place-based co-benefits through participatory methods that account for multiple values.
