Biography

Biography

Dr Daniel Doh is a Senior Lecturer in Social Work and Social Policy at the University of Western Australia (UWA). Daniel’s journey in academia includes significant roles such as a Social Work Lecturer at the University of Western Sydney, a Senior Research Officer for the Silver Chain Group – Access Care Network Australia in Western Australia, and a Sessional Academic at the School of Arts and Humanities - Edith Cowan University.  Daniel was an Assistant Research Fellow at the Centre for Social Policy Studies, University of Ghana, for eight years, where he spearheaded the development and coordination of the Master of Social Policy program. He also coordinated the design of a PhD Social Policy program for the University of Ghana.

As an accredited social worker and social policy analyst, Daniel has been involved in several governments and civil society research and policy initiatives. His work with the Government of Ghana, UNICEF, HelpAge Ghana, Revenue Watch Institute -UK, and other not-for-profit organisations in Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Kenya has led to critical policy outcomes in social protection for children and older people. Daniel has expertise in mixed-method program evaluation and research methodologies and has provided professional development workshops for researchers and policy actors in several African countries including Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Rwanda, and Uganda through the Partnership for African Social and Governance (PASGR) platforms resulting in a growing recognition for policy-engaged research across Africa. Daniel’s expertise and interest are in theory-based mixed-method evaluation, with a matched capacity for quantitative modelling and qualitative analysis.

Research Interest

Daniel’s research interests, which are highly relevant to the fields of social work, social policy, and other cognate disciplines include: Ageing and health, long term aged care, disability, informal care, child protection, and the intersection of migration. Daniel is also interested in complex and multisite evaluation projects focusing on randomized control trials and difference-in-difference designs.

Daniel is a professionally trained teacher. His teaching philosophy is based on understanding each student’s unique abilities and leveraging them through a collaborative learning process to promote effective learning. Daniel’s current teaching responsibilities include:

  • Social Isolation and loneliness among older migrants
