Biography

A/Prof Damon Bell is a consultant Chemical Pathologist and Endocrinologist. He is currently a sessional Chemical Pathologist in the Department of Clinical Biochemistry, PathWest Laboratory Medicine WA, at Royal Perth and Fiona Stanley Hospitals in general chemical pathology and the Cardiovascular Genetics Laboratory. He is a sessional Physician/Clinical Academic in the Medical School, University of Western Australia performing clinics in cardiometabolic medicine at Royal Perth Hospital. He is also a sessional Chemical Pathologist at Clinipath Pathology, and has a private practise specialising in cardiometabolic medicine at the WA Specialist Centre in Osborne Park.


Damon received his undergraduate medical education (MB ChB) in New Zealand graduating from the University of Otago. He completed his specialist physician training in endocrinology gaining Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRCPA) and chemical pathology training obtaining Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (FRCPA) at Wellington Hospital New Zealand. He then moved to Perth Western Australia where in addition to working as a chemical pathologist and physician, he completed a PhD at University of Western Australia with his thesis entitled “Optimising strategies for the detection and management of familial hypercholesterolaemia”. He has subsequently been awarded Fellowship of The Faculty of Science of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia.

A/Prof Damon Bell formally joined the UWA Medical School in 2011. He provides lectures and tutorials to UWA medical students and performs formal assessments. He is the course co-ordinator for the Master of Clinical Research and unit co-ordinator for the Development and Communication of Research. Damon is passionate about research and teaching research skills and is currently supervising Masters and PhD candidates.

Research

A/Prof Bell's research interests include inherited and acquired lipid disorders, hypertension, diabetes and cardiovascular disease which complement his clinical practice in cardiometabolic medicine.
