Dr Damon Bell is a consultant Chemical Pathologist and Endocrinologist. He currently works part time as a Chemical Pathologist in the Department of Core Clinical Pathology & Biochemistry, PathWest Laboratory Medicine WA, Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) and as a Physician/Associate Professor in the School of Medicine & Pharmacology, University of Western Australia at RPH. He is also a sessional Chemical Pathologist at St John of God Pathology. He received his undergraduate medical education (MB ChB) in New Zealand graduating from the University of Otago. He completed his specialist physician training in endocrinology gaining Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRCPA) and chemical pathology training obtaining Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (FRCPA) at Wellington Hospital New Zealand.
Chemical Pathologist and Endocrinologist
Currently, I provide clinical bedside teaching and assessment of 4th and 6th year medical students as part of my UWA position. I have been an examiner for the end of year clinical (OSCE) exams for the 4th and 5th year medical students since 2011. I also provide pathology lectures to UWA medical students and lecture the UWA Medical Laboratory Management students and PATH2201 students as part of my PathWest position. I also provide formal teaching to the AACB members, medical and chemical pathology registrars.
Dr Bell has interests in general endocrinology, diabetes, insulin resistance, metabolism, lipid disorders, hypertension and cardiovascular disease. His current research interests relate to screening strategies for and the management of familial hypercholesterolaemia (FH) which complements his clinical practice in the Lipid Disorders Clinic.
