Personal profile

Biography

I am a postdoctoral research associate at UWA School of Paediatrics and Child Health. I have expertise in the area of allergy with proteomic and molecular biology skills. I also have lab work experience in private pharmaceutical companies. My role involves leading the lab management of the Children Allergy and Immunology Research (CAIR) Group, giving lab advice and co-supervising PhD students. My research interests lie in a better understanding of the immunological mechanisms of the allergy disease and possible approaches for its prevention. I was awarded my PhD in 2014 from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain). My PhD project dealt with the identification of new allergenic shrimp proteins using immunoproteomic approaches, the implication of these shrimp allergens in mite-seafood cross reactivity, and the development of hypoallergenic treatments for shrimp allergy. My current research is focused to identify the risk factors that induce the increase of allergy prevalence in our societies, to develop new approaches for allergy prevention, and to contribute to unravel the immune outcomes of early life environmental exposures and dietary in allergic disease.

Future research

• Exploring immune markers associated with the development of early allergy disease.
• Better understanding of the mechanisms involved in allergy disease.
• Exploring immune system development in early life to develop tolerance or allergic response.
• Exploring new interventions to prevent allergic diseases.
